Are You A Woman Who Struggles With Boundaries And Speaking Up For Yourself?

I used to. I grew up as a middle child and a pastor's daughter. It took awhile for me to be comfortable expressing my true feelings, like anger. And honoring my needs when they conflicted with someone else's. Unfortunately, it wasn't until after I got sexually assaulted that I really took charge of cultivating and commanding my own power and strength.

If you can relate to my journey in anyway and would like to discover how to become more empowered, I've got an easy way to start. Take a few minutes to learn my 3 simple and fun steps outlined in this blog post. I'm honored to share some of the strategies that have worked for me so you can start taking advantage of them ASAP!

Women Are Strong, The Problem Is That Too Often, We Aren't Raised To Know It...

In many cultures women typically aren’t as encouraged to express our strength, anger, or alpha demeanor from the time we are young. The preparation for children to conform to certain gender roles can be more likely to raise boys to become familiar with these experiences. This is done in an effort to turn them into "ideal men".

When girls are taught to think of themselves as "the weaker sex" they can develop issues with being self reliant and achieving their fullest athletic potential. If girls are trained to prioritize being nice rather than being authentic and self protective, it will cause even more problems. It's a disservice to women for many reasons. It affects our confidence in taking on roles as leaders within our relationships, careers and community as well as our expression of anger and willingness to set clear, strong boundaries. You never know when you will need the super alpha woman who lives within you.

3 Easy Tips For Becoming An Empowered Woman...

That’s why I urge you to spend at least 5 - 20 minutes a day building up this aspect of your personality within your mind, body, and spirit so you can take charge whenever you need to stand up for yourself or others. Your alpha nature will give you the confidence to be more authentic, powerful, and decisive. Like a muscle, you can build this alpha woman nature within
yourself in any of the following ways...

✦ First, research empowered women for inspiration and so you can have some ideas about what name you would like to give the aspect of yourself that you are building up within you. Take time to get into a peak state (see suggestions below) and strike a power pose. Then give her a name once you’ve given her a specific posture and demeanor.

✦ Second, you will be able to understand what it feels like to be strong, capable, empowered, and confident if you make sure you are in a peak state. Use my Girl Power Playlist on Youtube, Body Positivity Playlist on Spotify, or make your own to build up your "I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR" self! Get your freak on... Dance, workout, or jump on a rebounder to condition your nervous system to feel your own power! 🙂

✦ Third, while in a peak positive state as you’re rebounding, dancing, or working out — repeat positive declarations such as...

  •  “I AM ________ (NAME YOU’VE GIVEN THE SUPER ALPHA WOMAN WITHIN YOU)!”
  • “I AM A FORCE FOR GOOD IN THIS WORLD!”
  • “I AM A LEADER! I WILL LEAD AND NOT FOLLOW!”
  • “I WILL SERVE — I REFUSE TO SURRENDER!”
  • “I WILL LIVE BY FAITH, COURAGE, WISDOM, AND POWER — NOT FEAR!”
  • “I WILL BELIEVE AND NOT DOUBT!”
  • Create your own declarations or make warrior sounds!

More Ways You Can Build An Empowered Identity...

✦ See how the 5 Rhythms Dancing method can help you integrate a balance of feminine and masculine energy by dancing through them. I’ve also personally benefited from boudoir and pole dancing classes to build up my powerful feminine energy and clear the shame around it.

✦ Watch Miss Representation — 2011 Documentary showing the damaging effects of the media’s portrayal of women and how that affects our sense of
self, our health and our roles in leadership. Watch the trailer. Found on Netflix, Amazon, iTunes, Google Play & Youtube for $3.99 and under.

✦ Watch What Does It Mean To Be A Female Alpha/ Leader?

✦ Watch Why We Have Too Few Women Leaders from Sheryl Sandberg | Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg looks at why a smaller percentage of women than men reach the top of their professions — and offers 3 powerful pieces of advice to women aiming for the C-suite.

*Note: I recognize that Sheryl’s perspective and advice is unfortunately often not inclusive enough or practical for all women. While she does have some valuable insight, it does come from a place of privilege that can be ineffective for many in certain circumstances. I'd like to create a more well-rounded collection. Please feel free to give me suggestions if you have any, thanks!

✦ Use my Resiliency Guided Meditation which will help you cultivate resourcefulness.  It will help you handle whatever life throws your way so you can thrive each day. If you’re ever in a cheeky mood, try the F*ck That: An Honest Meditation or the F*ck It And Let That $hit Go|Emotional Relief Meditation.

✦ Join a local, national, or international group like the Center for Women's Leadership Initiatives. There are many avenues to support your leadership abilities. Consider volunteer work, activism, or taking on more roles with responsibility to grow your confidence and capabilities. Focusing on things you can do to stand up for others will naturally help you to feel more empowered. Being a leader will also add more juice to your life as you’re fulfilling more of your driving needs in rewarding ways for both yourself and the good of those around you.
